It’s just over two weeks into the new year, you are back into your normal routine, your motivation levels have dropped and you are finding it difficult to stick to your new fitness regime. This is the situation a lot of people are finding themselves in this week. But before you decide to pack it in and try again next year, read through the list below to gain some perspective and keep on going to a healthier, happier you.
- You are only ever one meal/workout away from being back on track
You missed a couple of gym sessions this week or didn’t eat great on the weekend….WHO CARES. It only matters if you quit. If you go to the gym today and start back eating for your goals you will be right back on track and there is no harm done
2. You don’t need to be perfect
You don’t need to be perfect to get where you want to be. Just try to be as consistent as you can and don’t beat yourself up over missing a workout of having an unhealthy meal. It’s what you do 90% of the time that will determine your success not the odd bad meal or missed workout.
3. It will take time
You wont see changes overnight. It is only 2 weeks into the new year, stick at it for another 2-4 weeks and you will be starting to see some results and to feel better. When this happens it usually gives people the motivation to stay going even longer. Try to focus on behaviours that will help you reach your goal (such as exercising 3-5 times a week or eating 3 portions of vegetables a day) rather than results.
4. Remember why you started
Think back to why you started in the first place. What was your goal? Write it down and put it somewhere you can see it everyday to give yourself a reminder of why you are doing it.
5. Suck it up
Lastly here is some tough love. Nothing worth doing is ever easy, you have to put in the work to get the results. Nobody said it was going to be easy, so pull your socks up and don’t give up at the first obstacle in your journey to a better you. YOU CAN DO IT!! Lots of people just like you have done it before.
